MICK McMANUS

Mick McManus from New Cross, south London was the man you loved to hate - the biggest name in the business during the 60's and 70's. When you had McManus on the bill you were sure of a 'full house'. Unlike today's American wrestling stars, Mick came from an era of wrestling that had very few gimmicks. We nearest we got to a gimmick in the 60's was somebody wearing black tights instead of the conventional trunks. The punters flocked to the halls in the hope of seeing him beaten - which didn't happen very often.

A former British Welterweight Champion, Mick could wrestle with the best of them when he wanted and proved it when he took the European title off Vic Faulkner with a brilliant display of wrestling. For tag team purposes Mick teamed up with 'Iron Man' Steve Logan and there wasn't many teams that could beat the South London Tough Guys. Through the years Mick has been a great Ambassador for the business. He appeared on many television shows over the years defending the game. Now in his 80's, Mick is still enjoying good health and always turns up at the Annual Wrestlers Reunion at Wayne Bridges' pub near Dartford.
