Welcome to another Superstar interview with me, Ben Fordyce. This week we have a very special guest, the General Manager of the BWP, “The Word” Rudy Wynne . Welcome Rudy.
The Word: Great to be here. At last.
Ben: Yes thank you for coming. I understand you are a busy man.
The Word: Yes I am! It’s a fascinating life being the general manager, you have advertising networks to negotiate with, revenue streams to expore and contracts to sign. It’s a tough life.
Ben: I know, which is why we’re so appreciative you’re here. Now, a little background to The Word. Please, tell me about Rudy.
The Word: Well, I grew up a wrestling fan. My first show was the same as many British people, Summerslam 92. My personal favourite match was The Natural Disasters vs. The Beverley Brothers, largely because I was a huge Earthquake fan. I had previously discovered WWF Wrestlefest in the arcades of Llandudno, with the Canadian behemoth repeatedly kicking my arse. Anyway, I kept watching and watching, eventually getting the chance to live my dream in a less than reputable federation. As a smart man, I jumped ship, to what I imagined would be heaven, in the BWP.
Ben: “Imagined would be heaven”?
The Word: Yes Ben. I imagined I’d have the cushty life as I rose through the ranks of the BWP. I began as an apprentice referee, easily outshining him to become head referee, and then becoming general manager. In the space of one year! How incredible is that?!?
Ben: Very much so. Some would say your success has come at a price. The price of the fans respect for one….
The Word: Look, I didn’t earn the monniker “The Most Controversial Man Since Records Began” by being nice to everybody. There are too many fans who think they can play “Championship General Manager” and know what’s write, what brings people in. Fact is they don’t. There’s merchandising, there’s advertising, there’s foreign markets, there’s keeping the owners happy…
Ben: About that, The Sax Man has made known his disapproval of some of your matchmaking practices, what do you say to him?
The Word: Simple – it isn’t a one man operation. Britannia Wrestling Promotions is a large organisation behind the scenes, with a number of investors, one of which is The Sax Man. He is the principal owner, but he requires the backing of the entire board before making a decision. Luckily, common sense has prevailed and that the rest of the board have my backing. Why? Because it would cost them far too much to fire me.
Ben: I see. Onto firing, I understand you have a special message for one member of the roster, “The G-Man” Simon Gaytley .
The Word: Yes. Simon! You are not irreplaceable. I saw your schanigans with Sax at the last show, the politicing behind the scenes. What does G-Man stand for? General Manager? You physically assaulted me at Wrexham, and I want to make sure it won’t happen again. I’m making an example of you G-Man, that is why, you cannot physically lay one finger on me unless provoked. If you do, you’re finding your old crippled carcass another job sunshine!
Ben: Wow, powerful stuff.
The Word: Yes, and let that be a example to the rest of the roster. Don’t cross me, or you will be stacking shelves in supermarkets before you know it!
Ben: Okay, onto the final questions. One word answers. Here we go. Zach Diamond.
The Word: Misled
Ben: El Destello
The Word: Talented
Ben: Lord Graham Thomas
The Word: Champion
Ben: Marcus King

Ben: And finally Sebastian Winterz
The Word: Troublesome
Ben: Finally, who is your least favourite member of the BWP locker room.
The Word: Simon Gaytley by a country mile. We’re too different, and he stands for everything I am against. Enforced Euthanasia needs to be brought in for people like him. He’s served his purpose years ago. Now it’d be a good time to lay him to rest.
Ben: And who’s the longest in the showers?
The Word: Not me. I’m the shortest. Easily the shortest. In and out, I’m very quick.
Ben: Thanks for that. And thanks for your time.
The Word: The pleasure was all yours.
“The Word” Rudy Wynne will be appearing at the BWP Crosby Takeover tomorrow night at Crosby Civic Center, Liverpool, at 7:30pm. Tickets available on the door.
