Steve Saxon Addresses RWA In Person

January 15th, 2012

Yesterday I visited the Grangeway Community Centre, home of Runcorn Wrestling Academy, and am very pleased that I did.  I’d never attended an RWA training session before, although have attended many RWA shows over the past 2 years, it was a visit to observe, scout and officially announce in person to the RWA trainee’s about everybody’s future following the announcement that RWA will be the official training school of Britannia Wrestling.

There was a great buzz about the training school and lots of activity, the venue was split into three sections, two ring sized floor mats and the RWA training ring – each of the three head trainers, Corey E, the Babyface Pitbull and World of Sport Legend ‘Gypsy’ John Kenny, trained different techniques, moves, bumps, etc to three groups of trainee’s that were grouped based on age and experience, each group rotated ensuring that everybody had ample time with each trainer and on each lesson.  The professionalism of the whole school is excellent, everybody works together to collectively hold one of the best training sessions that I have ever witnessed in this business.

I then addressed the trainee’s, informing them that Britannia Wrestling Promotions will continue to work with Runcorn Wrestling Academy as we have done for over 2 years, one of the only changes being that I will be attending their weekly training sessions to observe their constant development.  I also informed them that the RWA Head Trainers and I will work together to decide which of the trainee’s will take part in the RWA/BWP Crossover Match at RWA Night of Memories 7 on Saturday 04 February 2012 – the winner of  the match will be officially signed to the BWP Rookie Division – right there, in the RWA ring on 04 February.

It was a great experience to witness two of my former Champions working hard with their trainee’s – Pitbull and Corey are both perfect examples of the positive connection between both RWA and BWP, the respect and commitment that is reflected between both trainer and trainee is distinctly apparent.

It was also great to see John Kenny working closely with the trainee’s and passing on his infinite gems of advice and knowledge of this business onto them.  He’s still got it.

I look forward to returning to RWA next weekend and witnessing another training session that is promised, as always, to be completely different to the previous one.  My visit this week certainly confirmed that there are great things ahead for both Runcorn Wrestling Academy and Britannia Wrestling Promotions.

An Interview With Ryan Kift

January 13th, 2012

Britannia Wrestling Promotions (BWP): We are here today with a film producer and TV personality as well as being the voice of Britannia Wrestling Promotions, Mr Ryan Kift … thanks for taking the time out to speak with us today Kifty, we know how busy you are at the moment with your latest horror film Zombies from Ireland … hows that going?

Ryan Kift (RK): Always got time for you guys! Things are really getting exciting at the moment with our first edit of the film nearly complete. We are working on a trailer now and can’t wait for people to finally get a taste of it!

BWP: When do you expect is to have its premiere showing? And where will that be?

RK: We are looking at a summer release and the premiere will be at an old court house transformed into a party venue. We shot 2 of our scenes there. The zombie jail scene and the Stripper scene. The venue is in Blaenau Ffestiniog and is called CellB.

BWP: That sounds great, we can not wait for the premiere of it!  How does producing a horror film and working for S4C TV compare to working with Britannia Wrestling Promotions?

RK: Not too dissimilar really. A common thread that entwines the three is the need and desire to please an audience. I really do think that that is the key to working in either TV, producing films and dealing with people on set etc and ring -announcing/commentating for BWP. If you can’t communicate and make a crowd believe in you and what you are saying then it’s already over with. The same for TV and films.

BWP: Well said.  Since your debut as the new Britannia Wrestling Promotions  Announcer at Denbigh Town Hall last September how do you feel things are going in Britannia Wrestling at present?

RK: Obviously things have improved since I’m on board, the shows run smoother and are more slick. But I also feel that the roster and the wrestling has upped a gear. I urge anyone to go to any other wrestling show anywhere in the UK run by another company and I bet my favourite hat that it won’t be a patch on a BWP show, bang for your buck and wrestling fix.

BWP: We love your expressions Kifty, thats one of the things that puts you so over with the fans!  Of course another Welsh Connection debuted at that same Denbigh show alongside you, star of Zombies from Ireland, Supermodel and S4C TV Star, Miss Sian Davies … who just so happens to be your partner (in crime) as well. Sian add’s a little more sex appeal to the Britannia Wrestling as our Ring Girl, will we ever see her clan a little more lycra than usual and get involved in the in-ring action? BWP could do with some female wrestlers to mix things up a little don’t you think?

RK: Now theres a thought! You will have to ask Sian that question. She has been beating up neighbours and ass kicking lately and that’s just cause they stole her parking space! Which is not really her space as it is infront of her fave shops in town!!

BWP: A question we will certainly ask her directly!  You were present at the Awards Ceremony last month in Chester, what is your opinion on the Award winners that night? Did any of your picks come through?

RK: It’s all a bit hazy but a few of my choosen ones did win so I was pleased. Everyone who won did deserve it as I myself had trouble in deciding as the roster has been pumping this year!

BWP: We agree, we found it hard to vote last year as well, which is a massive compliment to the Superstars and staff of BWP.  What has been the highlight of your short time so far in Britannia Wrestling Promotions, and why?

RK: Ring announcing and introducing El Generico during his title match at Frith Beach against Pitbull. This was my second time ever with BWP and the expression “In at the deep-end” was never more suitable.

BWP: Steve Saxon is notorious for throwing people in at the deep end, he swears by it!  Who do you see as being the ones to watch and breakout stars of 2012 for Britannia Wrestling?

RK: Zack Gibson really shines when he is in the ring at the moment so watch out for some big things from him! Also I think that this could be the year that The Hammer smashes it and dominates the scene, only if he wants it bad enough though as there are a lot of hungry newbies out for his blood!

BWP: Great choices there! Kifty, its been an absolute pleasure as always … thanks again for your time, say ‘Hi’ to Sian for us and can not wait to see the premiere of Zombies from Ireland! Diolch!

RK: It’s been fun. Thanks and no problem, like I said, always got time for BWP. And remember “If you can’t stand the heat, put some factor 30 spf on and take regular sips of water”

RWA – The OFFICIAL Training Partner of Britannia Wrestling Promotions

January 8th, 2012

rwabwp

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Runcorn Wrestling Academy is now the official training partner of Britannia Wrestling Promotions.  This deal allows for greater growth for some of the future talent of the British Wrestling circuit – growth that previous RWA trainees have taken advantage of and have gone onto not only headlining Britannia Wrestling, but working for some of the other reputable British Wrestling companies around today.

We have had a healthy, positive and informal working relationship with Runcorn Wrestling Academy for over 2 years but now we are able to work together on a more professional level, monitoring the students in preparation for their transition through training school ranks into the ranks of the BWP Rookie Division.

On Saturday 04 February 2012 I will be making a special guest appearance at RWA Night of Memories 7, I will be there to announce which RWA trainee’s have been selected to compete in a special match on that very night.  The winner of this match will be handed a Britannia Wrestling Promotions contract inducting them into the BWP Rookie Division with immediate affect!

This transition between companies will allow for greater opportunities for the loyal and dedicated trainee’s of RWA and I for one am greatly looking forward to working with Runcorn Wrestling Academy to produce the next crop of Great British Wrestling talent!

Classic Ciaran McConnell Gets Media Attention

Bangor Man Makes His Mark In The Grappling Game

Classic Ciaran McConnell battles Zack Gibson

THE world of wrestling is an action-packed mix of sport and theatre, and the men and women of Britannia Wrestling Promotions (BWP) certainly take their art form seriously.

Classic Ciaran McConnell, 20, studies English at Bangor University when he is not trapping opponents in his finishing hold, the figure four leg lock.

“Lots of friends ask me about it and I’m happy to tell them about it. It’s a big part of my life and I’m proud to do it,” he said.

Wrestling fans are well aware of the serious injuries that performers have suffered, and Ciaran explained that wrestlers pride themselves on looking after their opponents.

“If you commit to everything you do, there’s less chance of being hurt. I don’t claim to be a hard-man.

“Just as easily as they could end up hurt, you could. If you’re injured, especially in the big leagues, you can’t make money,” he said.

Watching Ciaran strut to the ring in a shiny golden robe to the strains of Van Halen at an event in Porthmadog, it is easy to see why he puts up with the rigours of ring action, as he gleefully interacts with the crowd.

“I also do stand up comedy. It doesn’t matter how big the arena is, being able to make people feel is a very powerful thing,” he said.

Jim “The Metal” King, 20, of Abergele, hopes eventually to compete for a major American company such as WWE.

He combines grappling working behind the counter at Blockbuster.

“It’s like Clark Kent. By day I’m serving people. By night, the spandex comes on and I’m travelling the country,” he said.

Ciaran , however, hopes to be an English teacher, but has not ruled out one day making his mark in America.

“There’s a good quote on my friend’s Facebook: ‘Reach for the top of the tree and you won’t leave the ground. Reach for the stars and you might reach the top of the tree‘,” he said.

BWP hopes to hold more events in Anglesey and Gwynedd, and commentator Ryan Kift, of Llanrug, explained what people can expect from the company’s mix of storylines and combat.

“BWP is unique in that you can come to each show as each one will be different and the shows are constantly evolving and improving,” he said.

Although much of the action is planned beforehand, BWP Owner Steve Saxon explained that the wrestlers at the Porthmadog show would have a week off to heal up.

“These guys are pure professionals. People don’t always appreciate what they’re doing to their bodies for the sake of entertainment.,” he said.

BWP & RWA – Building On A Solid Foundation

December 22nd, 2011

1

For over 2 years now, Britannia Wrestling Promotions have been working alongside one of the finest professional wrestling academy’s in the United Kingdom, the Runcorn Wrestling Academy.  Founded by Andy Baker, the RWA have produced a fine crop of talent that are currently dominating the current British Wrestling scene – individuals such as Zack ‘Diamond’ Gibson, The Babyface Pitbull, Dean MacManus, Andreas Rossi, Craig Winters and many more – most of which began their journey into the independent wrestling scene through the ranks of RWA training, onto BWP Rookies … from Rookies to Main Roster.

Since 04 September 2009, a solid foundation between Britannia Wrestling Promotions and Runcorn Wrestling Academy has formed – a relationship that allows continuous growth and evolution from a Professional Wrestling training school to an established & reputable independent Wrestling Promotion.

Moving into 2012 BWP Founder & Owner Steve Saxon has announced that he has come to an agreement with Runcorn Wrestling Academy that will allow greater opportunities for the trainee’s of RWA to be able to step up to the BWP Rookie Divison and work live BWP shows once their training process is fulfilled.

Saxon and RWA Management are said to be finalising plans for a special announcement at an RWA event in early 2012 at the Grangeway Centre in Runcorn.

Classic Encounters:Fantasy Fight Night Cyanide Vs Giant Haystacks

December 14th, 2011

Britannia Wrestling Promotions –
Classic Encounters: Fantasy Fight Night
CYANIDE Vs GIANT HAYSTACKS

Giant Haystacks
Hailing From
: London
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 50 Stone (approx.)
Signature Moves: Big Splash, Elbow Drop
Career Highlights: British Heavyweight Champion, European Heavyweight Champion, Stampede Wrestling International Tag Team Champion (w/The Dynamite Kid, Bret Hart)

Cyanide
Hailing From
: ‘Wherever he damn well pleases’
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 28 Stone (approx.)
Signature Moves: Gas Chamber Splash, Michinoku Driver, One-Handed Sit out Chokebomb
Career Highlights: NGW Heavyweight Champion, BWP Tag Team Champion (Current:w/DJ King)

Bigger isn’t always better? Good luck convincing the first two subjects in this months first ever “Fantasy Fight Night” feature.  At a total combined weight of over half a tonne, both Cyanide and his prodigious predecessor, ‘Stacks, are potentially the last names a wrestler of this generation, or the last, would like to see opposite theirs on a job sheet.  How, though, would they fare against one another?

Undoubtedly the largest British wrestler of his era, Giant Haystacks used his size to great effect during his storied career.  Although globally reknowned for his legendary feud with another ‘battling behemoth’ in Big Daddy, Haystacks fought all over the world with all kinds of iconic adversaries from the ‘World of Sport’ era including Pat ‘Bomber’ Roach, Kendo Nagasaki, ‘Tarzan’ Johnny Wilson and Wayne Bridges. He also tangled with WWE stars such as Bret Hart, William Regal and, the mammoth, Big Show.  More often than not the result was all to familiar for Haystack’s foes, as he would come crashing down on top of them with a thunderous splash that would leave them vulnerable to a deciding pinfall or the dreaded ten-count knock out.

No stranger to a crippling splash from above, though, is “The Toxic Terror” Cyanide.  A rare and genuine monster on the British wrestling scene today, Cyanide, like Haystacks, is a man whose weight is often enough of a deciding factor to secure him victory in a match.  He is, however, far from a one-trick pony.  Gifted with wicked speed and brutally explosive strength, Cyanide has proved on many occasions that he is capable of putting away adversaries in many different ways.  Reigning (as of writing) as one half of the BWP Tag Team Champions, Cyanide holds pinfall victories over many top BWP stars including Sabotage, The Classic Combo, The Red Saint, D Mac and The Matthews Brothers.  As if he wasn’t a formiddable opponent for any BWP roster member himself, his association with DJ King & The Brand only increase the level of danger this man-monster brings to the table.

CYANIDE

Although Haystacks often came out on the losing end of his clashes with Big Daddy (like Cyanide, a man who, though big in his own right, was dwarfed by the mighty Giant) Cyanide would, no doubt, opt for a different approach than the ‘belly-butting’ Crabtree employed three-to-four decades ago.  His speed would be his best weapon in defeating the man-mountain, as Haystacks was unaccustomed to long drawn out bouts and he would likely tire after 2 or 3 fast-paced rounds.  Also a target for Cyanide is, strangely, a chink Haystacks exposed in his armour when he was near victory.  After delivering his trademark splash to a fallen foe, Haystacks would often take a great deal of time to get to his feet. Should Cyanide be able to bring Giant Haystacks to the deck, perhaps aided with a few Gas Chamber Splashes, it is unlikely that the fallen phenom would be able to make it up before the decisive ten-count.  Speaking of splashes, though, if Haystacks were able to execute the move to ‘The Toxic Terror’, it’s likely Cyanide would be the one left out for the count.

STACKS

This is just my opinion though, and you are quite welcome to express your own opinions in the comments box below about who you think would be the last giant standing between the late, great Giant Haystacks and ‘The Toxic Terror’ Cyanide.

Regal Rantings: BWP Awards, Immortal Yidster, Jim King, 2012 & More

November 23rd, 2011

regalrant1

I’m back with another rant folks.

Just a few days before Britannia Wrestling Promotions invades Porthmadog where I will be taking on The Immortal Yidster who we all know is Jacob Israel.  I for one am looking forward to it and I am hoping that it will be  a good match and goes well for both of us, Yid is a good young talent who could do really well on the UK scene and I hope to give him a good showing and prove why I am “Wrestler of the Year 2010”.  So be there on Saturday 26th November, you have been warned!

There is some great talent on this weekends show, including the PWI:BWP World Catchweight Champion CJ Banks who will go against a man that I know all to well, Jim “The Metal” King, who I think (and this may sound bad as I’ve not seen him enough this year) that Jim could be out of his depth – as an outsider looking in, he seems to have dropped his performances this year and seems to be off the boil slightly, not knocking Jim, it’s just my view.

Friday 16th December is the Britannia Wrestling Promotions Annual Awards Ceremony and OMG what a night it could be!  Over the last 2 years there has been problems and issues at the Ceremony and they all come down to one person and that is ME!  So what will this year bring?  All I can say is EVERYONE has been warned – LGT will be in attendance and a drunken rant could be in sight (If allowed a microphone of course!).  If you haven’t voted already, then please do so (VOTE HERE).  I need ‘Villain of the year’ –  that B*stard El Destello has claimed it 2 years running and it’s the only Award that I want!!

So with 2011 almost done I have been thinking of my year with BWP and it has been a weird one, I haven’t been there as much as I would of hoped – last year I missed just 1 show – this year I have done 5-6 shows which I am disappointed with as I have lost every single match I have had which is even more disappointing, mostly to the 1st ever El Bandito Memorial Shield winner Shaun”The Hammer” Davis.  This year has had a few highs but if I’m being honest in my performance for BWP there has been more lows – but I promise that in 2012 I will be back to my best and prove why I should be one of, if not the top guy, and I will bring great things to BWP!  With some of the things I have heard and been told, 2012 will be a massive year for all.

So all of you have a good Christmas and New Year.
