WRESTLING EVENT PROVES BIG HIT

Sports fans finally got the big wrestling event they craved for, as the UK’s heavyweights made their way to Powys.

Llanwrtyd Wells has long been synonymous with such crazy events as Bog Snorkeling, Chariot Racing and the Man v Horse Marathon, but it was wrestling that took centre stage on Saturday, March 14.

It ended a near five month wait for the town’s fight-hungry fans, who were left disappointed when a charity wrestling event was pulled at the last minute back in October due to an administrative blunder.

Rapturous wrestling fans packed in to the spa town’s, Ysgol Dolafon for the Britannia Wrestling Promotions action-packed spectacle in which hometown hero Texas Joe Savoldi – who grappled with wrestling icons Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks in his heyday – stole the headlines as he rolled backed the years and left the crowd spellbound.

Texas got the better of all the bill’s brawlers by ousting them in the ‘Over the top rope’ Royal Rumble-style challenge-much to the delight of the vociferous home crowd.

Organiser Steve Saxon of Britannia Wrestling Promotions, said ‘It was a good event, particularly with home favourites Texas Joe Savoldi and the Awesome Aaron Adams on show.  The atmosphere was electric.’

‘I’d like to think we’d be able to bring the event back in the future, say in 12 months time.  It was perfect for wrestling, the ideal set-up’.
