Bafta Award winning actor, Mickey Rourke, last night appeared as the main guest on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross on BBC1. Rourke received an amazing reception from the audience, co-interviewee’s and Ross, the main interest of the interview of course being Rourke’s comeback blockbuster movie, The Wrestler.
Rourke is tipped to pick up several Oscar’s at tomorrows Oscar Award Ceremony in America for his role as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson in his latest hit movie, a brokendown and aged wrestler who is trying to relive the glory days and continue his legacy as a Headlining Superstar from the 80’s/90’s era of wrestling.
Rourke was open, as always, concerning his past demons and addictions that brought the one time Hollywood A-lister down to the gutter and washed him out financially, personally and socially. Ross also mentioned Rourke’s involvement in this years WWE Wrestlemania event due to be held in April 2009, where Mickey has been invited to attend the spectacular event, however it was confirmed by Rourke himself that since he has given other associates the power to control his life again (i.e. management) that he will not be able to compete in a sanctioned match at Wrestlemania … Rourke seemed genuinely miffed about that … word has it that the snobbish Oscar’s Powers-that-Be stated that if Rourke had agreed to be involved in a physical match at Wrestlemania, he would not receive any Oscar Awards for his role in The Wrestler … after Rourke’s days as a boxer which were the start of the downhill spiral of his career and life at that time, it seems that Mickey has this time realised that it is perhaps wise to follow the advice and guidance of those people who are paid to manage him and his career decisions, for now at least! Seeing as the Oscar’s is happening tomorrow evening in America, and Mania isn’t until April – who knows what could happen between now and then!
Good to see Mickey Rourke on British TV screens again after so many years away, and all the best to him for tomorrow evening!
