Town finally set for Wrestlemania
by Daniel Johns
DISAPPOINTED wrestling fans will finally see their heroes competing in the ring.
An administrative blunder meant a charity Wrestling Royal Rumble in Llanwrtyd Wells was KO’d at the eleventh hour in October last year. The cancellation of the event, which was set to raise £3,000 for local primary school Ysgol Dolafon, left 400 ticket holding fans disappointed.
But thanks to Britannia Wrestling Promotions, Llanwrtyd Wells will finally get the wrestling event it craves.
The March event will see hometown hero Owen Sterry, also known as Texas Joe Savoldi, bring his years of experience to the ring having competed against legends such as Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks.
The event will also be poignant for Owen’s son, Aaron- The Amazing Aaron Adams, who was trained by his father and will find himself competing at his former primary school, Ysgol Dolafon.
Organiser Steve Saxonof Britannia Wrestling Promotions, said of the event: “I have been running professional and reputable shows in the UK for several years. Recently I have been speaking with Owen Sterry and we have agreed that his hometown would make an excellent venue for one of our wrestling shows.
“It will see the former wrestling hero Owen Sterry – former tag-team champion with the legendary WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, working a show in his home town for the first time in over 20 years.
“Not only Owen, but his son Aaron, who attended the local school and broke into the wrestling business two years ago ago and has quickly become a fan favourite.
“This father/son combination will hopefully have Llanwrtyd Wells rocking because I am led to believe that it a deprived town in terms of entertainment for all the family.”
The International Fallout Wrestling event is set to take place at Ysgol Dolafon, Llanwrtyd Wells on Saturday, March 14. Doors open at 6.30pm and the contest gets underway an hour later.
